Developer Fee Cuts Not Passed on to EU Users, Apple Says
Apple's commissioned study of 41 million EU App Store transactions found 91% of app prices unchanged despite a 10% average fee reduction under the Digital Markets Act.
- On Wednesday, Apple shared an Analysis Group study showing the Digital Markets Act did not lower App Store prices, renewing criticism of European Union tech rules.
- Last year, Apple complied with the DMA by permitting third-party distribution and new terms that cut commissions from 30% to 17% and 15% to 10%, with EU developers gaining access to alternative app stores.
- Analysis Group's transaction review found that across 41 million App Store transactions and 21,000 paid apps, developers kept or raised prices for nine out of 10 products, with average reductions of just 2.5 percent.
- An Apple spokesperson warned that DMA compliance has delayed EU iOS features and said more than 86 percent of commission savings flowed to non-EU developers, harming EU consumers' privacy and security.
- The study comes amid Apple’s wider campaign against the DMA and its gatekeeper designation under the DMA, and Apple published the full study and data on its website.

Apple Uses An App Store Study To Show The EU Failed To Reduce App Pricing
