Estonia and Latvia detect air threats overnight, their defence forces say
Estonia and Latvia issued air danger warnings after detecting foreign drones near their borders with Russia, with at least one drone debris found and airport disruptions reported.
On Tuesday, The Estonian Defence Forces detected "potentially dangerous air activity" near its borders and issued an overnight preventive threat notification, lifting the alert by 06:00 local time after the threat passed.
Colonel Uku Arold, spokesperson for the Estonian Defence Forces, stated it was "highly likely that Ukrainian drones that went astray were involved," with debris discovered in Tartu county.
In neighboring Latvia, The National Armed Forces issued warnings Monday evening after detecting a foreign drone near the Russian border, though the aircraft approached Ludza and Balvi without entering Latvian airspace.
Following Sunday's crash of a Ukrainian drone in Finland carrying an unexploded warhead, authorities confirmed the first spillover of the Russia-Ukraine war onto Finnish soil.
Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo noted Ukraine has struck Russian oil ports with more than 2,500 drones recently; Baltic and Finnish forces have increased readiness to manage conflict-related security risks.
