Turkey to Supply Natural Gas From Azerbaijan to Syria
TURKEY, JUL 30 – The initial supply of 6 million cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas daily aims to generate up to 1,200 megawatts, easing Syria's electricity shortages caused by years of conflict.
- Starting August 2, 2025, Turkey will begin delivering Azerbaijani natural gas to Syria through the Kilis pipeline, with an official ceremony planned to commemorate the launch of this energy transfer.
- This supply follows a July memorandum of understanding signed by Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and SOCAR to export Azerbaijani gas via Turkey, amid Syria’s electricity crisis.
- The project aims to deliver an initial 6 million cubic meters of gas daily to Aleppo, generating around 1,200 megawatts of electricity and addressing limited power availability in Syria.
- Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar indicated that the gas supply will provide power to approximately 1.6 million homes in the region, which is expected to help facilitate the repatriation of Syrians residing in Turkey.
