Elon Musk: We’ll launch self-driving technology in Israel soon
Musk said Tesla has fewer than 30 unsupervised robotaxis in Texas and expects the system to become widespread in the United States by year-end.
On Monday, during the 9th International Smart Mobility Summit 2026, Tesla CEO Elon Musk claimed via video link that unsupervised Full Self-Driving will be "widespread" in the United States by year-end.
Tesla currently operates fewer than 30 unsupervised robotaxis across three Texas cities, and scaling to "widespread" usage in seven months lacks supporting evidence, according to the Robotaxi Tracker.
Musk has a history of optimistic projections, having promised "complete autonomy" by 2017 and "over a million robotaxis" by 2020; six weeks ago, he claimed FSD was already "10X safer" than human drivers.
Transportation and Road Safety Minister Miri Regev joined the conference, noting that autonomous driving technologies could reduce burdens costing the State of Israel $40 billion annually, with Musk expressing interest in bringing the system there.
Looking ahead, Musk predicted a future where humanoid robots outnumber humans, potentially expanding the global economy one hundredfold, while emphasizing that developers must remain "a little paranoid" regarding safety.
