Last year, more than 86 million kilos of strawberries were harvested in the Netherlands. That's double the amount in 2010, while the area devoted to strawberry cultivation decreased by more than 15 percent. This is according to figures from Statistics Netherlands (CBS).
Because more strawberries are grown under glass and plastic tunnels, the harvest has doubled in fifteen years.
