Men jailed for abduction and sex assault of girl
The victim was offered cocaine and isolated before one man sexually assaulted her, while the other was sentenced as the driving force.
On Thursday, Birmingham Crown Court sentenced Hamza Sharif to five years and Sadak Ali to seven years for abducting and sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl who was isolated at a house after being approached on the street.
Sharif met the victim near a railway station after she left home, persuading her to accompany him under the guise of help. Judge Roderick Henderson identified Sharif as the "driving force" behind the abduction.
Ali asked the victim "highly invasive and sexualised questions" and sexually assaulted her over her clothing. Prosecutors stated the men offered the child cocaine, which she refused before a member of the public intervened.
The victim told the court the ordeal "changed my life forever," describing enduring "nightmares and flashbacks" involving the men. Ali was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, and both men received restraining orders.
Defense barristers Simon Burch and Simon Williams argued the defendants suffered from "various tragedies" and "experienced trauma," but Judge Henderson rejected these claims. He described the victim as "a desperately vulnerable youth" and condemned the men's failure to contact authorities.
