Man admits raping woman drugged by her husband for over 20 years
The 74-year-old is the third man to admit abusing the victim, whose husband has already pleaded guilty to 62 offences.
On Thursday, Graham Brougham entered the dock at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court and admitted an offence of rape. The 74-year-old was one of 13 men charged with sexually abusing a woman drugged by her husband for more than 20 years.
The victim was drugged by her husband for more than 20 years, enabling others to enter their Stockport home to abuse her. Her husband previously admitted 62 sexual offences against her, including rape.
Last week, co-defendant Sean Peers admitted to assault by penetration and was bailed ahead of sentencing. Brougham is the third man to plead guilty in this ongoing case.
Judge Maurice Greene granted Brougham bail until sentencing but warned: "You should be under no illusion, the sentence will be custody and a long time." The defendant remains free pending the sentencing date.
Jurors have been sworn in for the trial of the remaining 10 defendants, who deny all allegations. Proceedings are scheduled to resume on November 2 when the prosecution is expected to open its case.
