Predatory Police Officer Locked up After Raping Woman and Teenage Girl
The 32-year-old was convicted on four sexual offence charges after jurors heard he raped one victim as a teenager and another woman twice.
On Thursday, Carmichael John Williamson, a 32-year-old Police Scotland officer, was convicted at the High Court in Edinburgh of raping a teenage girl and a woman in Shetland.
The jury found Williamson guilty of sexual offences committed in the Shetland area between 2014 and 2022, all occurring while the officer was off-duty.
Judge John Morris KC described the trial as "anxious and distressing" after Williamson, who had denied the charges, was remanded in custody following the verdict.
Sentencing is deferred until December 8, as Detective Superintendent Stevie Bertram of the Public Protection Unit stated, "We are absolutely committed to rooting individuals who are involved in criminality out of this organisation."
Police Scotland arrested and suspended Williamson on January 10, 2024, following an investigation that began in December 2023, while the Crown dropped five additional charges before closing speeches.
