DRDO and IAF Successfully Flight-Tests Indigenous RudraM-II Air-to-Surface Missile
The indigenous air-to-surface missile hit a predefined target and met all mission objectives, officials said, after tests under extreme release conditions.
- On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Indian Air Force successfully flight-tested the indigenous RudraM-II air-to-surface missile, which accurately struck its designated target after launch from an airborne platform.
- Developed by Research Centre Imarat , the missile achieves speeds of Mach 5.5, engages targets at ranges of around 300 km, and carries a 200-kg warhead; it launches from the Sukhoi Su-30MKI at altitudes between 3 km and 15 km.
- Designed for Suppression of Enemy Air Defence missions, the RudraM-II employs hybrid guidance architecture to neutralize enemy radar and communication assets, gradually replacing the ageing Russian-origin Kh-31 missiles currently in service.
- Rigorous testing under extreme release conditions validated critical subsystems and flight parameters, as data captured by the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur confirmed the missile successfully followed its designated trajectory with pinpoint accuracy.
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO and IAF, stating the successful trials reflect the increasing maturity of indigenous defence technologies and mark a significant step toward self-reliance in advanced weapon systems.
