Today, in Hungary, roughly ten percent of the 2 million old-age pensioners work in some capacity, which is significantly lower than the average of leading European countries. At the same time, there is a significant group of retired workers who contribute invisibly, but very actively, to the domestic GDP.
According to a recent announcement by the Central Statistical Office, in January 2025, 14,431 people had pensions or other benefits exceeding 700,000 forints. The number of people receiving benefits below 200,000 forints is decreasing, while the number of people entitled to amounts above 350,000 forints is dynamically increasing. We present the latest figures.
