Djokovic Wins China Open After De Minaur Retires
De Minaur retired after a groin injury, and Djokovic extended his Beijing record to 34-0 while winning his seventh title there and 102nd overall.
On Tuesday, Novak Djokovic secured his seventh China Open title in Beijing after opponent Minaur retired in the second set, marking the 102nd career title for the 39-year-old.
Returning to the Chinese National Tennis Center for the first time in 11 years, Djokovic extended his unbeaten record at the venue to 34 games. He defeated top seed Alexander Zverev during his run to the final.
After a 67-minute first set that Djokovic won 7-6 , both players required medical treatment. The Australian needed an off-court timeout for a groin issue, while Djokovic requested a trainer for his physical struggles.
Minaur retired after only one game of the second set, saying, "I want to say sorry to all the amazing fans that came to watch this match. I didn't want to finish like this."
Earlier, Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jiri Lehecka at the Japan Open to win his first individual title since February. Playing his third tournament since returning from a wrist injury, the Spaniard recovered from a shaky start to win.
