Embattled French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu was to give a high-stakes speech to a deeply divided parliament on Tuesday, with opponents already trying to topple his government.

The Prime Minister's remarks were reported by the government's spokesman, Maud Bregeon, who defended a "radically new process", insisting in particular on the non-use of 49.3. Mr Lecornu will deliver his general policy statement at about 3 p.m., which, according to his entourage, will be a speech of "social right" and "out of crisis".
