A Turkish court has sentenced opposition politician Metin Gürcan, a prominent defense analyst and co-founder of the Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA), to more than 16 years in prison on charges of acquiring classified information, the state-run TRT Haber reported.
DEVA Party Founding Member Metin Gürcan was sentenced to 16 years and 8 months in prison in the case in which he was tried on charges of "espionage". Metin Gürcan was sent to Sincan No. 2 L Type Closed Prison.
Former soldier Metin Gürcan, who was also among the founding members of the DEVA Party, was sentenced to 16 years and 8 months in prison for providing information that should remain confidential due to the nature of the security and political benefits of the State. Gürcan was transferred to Sincan No. 2 L Type Closed Penal Institution.
DEVA Party Founding Member Metin Gürcan, who was tried for transferring state secret information to foreign missions, was sentenced to 16 years and 8 months in prison. The verdict stated that he obtained military and diplomatic information that threatened Turkey's security in exchange for money.
