DENMARK, JUN 28 – Denmark aims to empower individuals with legal control over their likeness to reduce misuse of AI deepfakes, backed by 90% of parliament members, setting a European precedent.
- Denmark announced plans in June 2025 to amend copyright law to give citizens ownership over their bodies, voices, and facial features to combat deepfakes.
- This action responds to growing misuse of AI-generated deepfakes that increasingly impersonate individuals without consent, raising concerns about identity theft and misinformation.
- The proposal allows people to demand removal of unauthorized digital representations from online platforms and introduces penalties for noncompliance, excluding parody and satire.
