Democrat Maura Healey wins reelection for governor in Massachusetts
Healey secured a second four-year term after affordability concerns and repeated attacks linking Mike Minogue to Donald Trump shaped the race.
On Tuesday, Massachusetts Gov Maura Healey won a second four-year term, defeating Republican Michael Minogue, a former medical device CEO who poured more than 18 million of his own money into the race.
Healey repeatedly linked Minogue to President Donald Trump due to his nearly $1 million in donations to the president and national Republicans, while Minogue hammered Healey over the state's affordability crisis and energy costs.
Minogue's running mate, New Bedford City Councilor Shawn Oliver, suspended his lieutenant governor campaign last month after a drunk-driving charge, complicating the Republican ticket's final weeks.
Healey will begin her second term on Beacon Hill, though the administration faces scrutiny over the $2 billion courthouse project, a former aide's cocaine arrest, and $1 billion in annual migrant spending.
Political analysts suggest Healey's national prospects may be weakened after a campaign defined more by anti-Trump rhetoric than policy, leaving her to navigate a second term amid voter dissatisfaction over the state's direction.
