Democrats will take control of the House in U.S. midterms, networks project
The projection gives Democrats control of the chamber and the power to block Trump’s agenda, launch investigations and set the House floor schedule.
On Tuesday, Decision Desk projected Democrats will seize control of the House from Republicans, ending the GOP's two-year legislative majority.
Two years ago, Republicans gained control during the 2022 midterm elections; ahead of Tuesday's vote, they held only a slim four-seat majority over Democrats.
While there was no "red wave" as predicted, Democrats flipped 19 districts and prevailed in key races across Florida, North Carolina, and Kentucky.
The results serve as a "searing indictment" on "rule and the first two years of Trump," with the House GOP facing renewed legislative oversight of Trumpian policies.
Within the GOP, concerns circulated about potential losses of 35 House seats and six Senate seats, as a Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee official acknowledged the shifting political landscape.
