Big Boost for Indian Armed Forces: Centre Clears ₹79,000 Crore Proposals for Army, Navy, IAF

The Defence Acquisition Council approved Rs 79,000 crore for advanced weapons and systems to enhance self-reliance and operational capabilities across all military branches.

  • On Thursday, the Defence Acquisition Council chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved procurements at South Block, New Delhi, sanctioning Rs 79,000 crore for the Army, Navy and Air Force.
  • To bolster self-reliance, the DAC granted Acceptance of Necessity for the Nag Missile System Mark-II, GBMES and HMVs, framing approvals as a step to boost India's military might.
  • Naval approvals include Landing Platform Docks, 30mm Naval Surface Guns, Advanced Light Weight Torpedoes and Electro Optical Infra-Red Search and Track System; the ALWT targets conventional, nuclear and midget submarines, while the 30mm NSG enhances Indian Navy and Coast Guard maritime operations.
  • The Air Force will receive the Collaborative Long Range Target Saturation/Destruction System, a system capable of autonomous take-off, landing, navigation, detection and payload delivery, the defence ministry said.
  • Army logistics will get a lift from High Mobility Vehicles fitted with Material Handling Cranes that strengthen movement of heavy equipment across diverse terrains.
