Nigeria Refinery Aims to Be World's Biggest with Expansion
The expansion will create over 65,000 jobs and double polypropylene output while upgrading fuels to Euro 6 standards, enhancing Nigeria's refining capacity significantly.
- Alhaji Aliko Dangote said on Sunday in Lagos, the refinery will expand to 1.4 million barrels per day after signing with its technology licensor.
- Building on existing port and SPM infrastructure, the project aims to make Dangote Petroleum Refinery LFZ the world's biggest, displacing Reliance refinery, Jamnagar, India, and will use existing land and infrastructure for faster completion.
- The company said the expansion will create over 65,000 jobs, double polypropylene production from 900,000 to 2.4 million tonnes, upgrade to Euro 6 fuel standard, and provide "Over 85 percent of our workforce will be Nigerian, with ongoing investment in skills and technology transfer," Dangote said.
- Dangote reaffirmed plans to list a significant portion of Dangote Petroleum Refinery LFZ shares on the Nigerian Exchange next year and said the expansion will stabilise fuel pricing during the festive season.
- Nigeria currently produces around 1.8 million barrels per day, and Dangote said `All of us must contribute our quota to achieve a $1 trillion economy. We are doing our own, and I believe others should do theirs`.
