Crow-Armstrong’s RBI single in the bottom of the 9th lifts Cubs past the Athletics 7
On Thursday night, the Chicago Cubs rallied for a 7-6 victory over the Athletics, avoiding a sweep. Pete Crow-Armstrong provided the deciding RBI single during a four-run ninth-inning surge.
The Athletics built a 6-1 lead earlier, fueled by four home runs. Shea Langeliers hit a pair, while Tyler Soderstrom and Jonah Heim added consecutive solo shots in the seventh inning.
Ian Happ previously tightened the score with a 446-foot, two-run homer in the seventh inning off Scott Barlow. The Cubs' offense then surged in the ninth, recording five hits off reliever Joel Kuhnel.
The Cubs, who had lost 14 of 17, snapped their slump with this victory. Ryan Rolison worked the final 1⅓ innings to earn the win.
Up next, the Athletics travel to Houston for a three-game series starting Friday. Meanwhile, the Cubs prepare to host San Francisco on Friday afternoon with RHP Ben Brown starting.
