Ryker Cox, Gabe English take home state titles in boys wrestling

2025 was a rare off-year for Section 2 boys wrestling, having no state champions. That would not be the case this year, though, as a pair of Capital Region grapplers found their way to the top of the podium at the NYSPHSAA individual championships this weekend, with another five finishing in second place.

Coxsackie-Athens junior Cox wins Division 2 boys’ wrestling state title

ALBANY — Coxsackie-Athens boys’ wrestling junior Ryker Cox became the first state champion in his team’s history on Saturday, winning Division 2’s 165-pound final in a 7-4 major decision against Cadin Creeley of Newark Valley.
