Court sends Swatantra Bhardwaj to one day of judicial custody
- On Monday, the Delhi High Court agreed to grant an urgent hearing for a habeas corpus plea filed by Hindutva influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj, who remains in judicial custody following his Sunday remand.
- The investigation centers on an alleged assault at Jantar Mantar during a CJP protest, where Bhardwaj previously claimed in a podcast that he had "cracked the skull" of activist's father Sanjay Kumar.
- Investigators asked Bhardwaj more than 100 questions during his remand, as Delhi Police added SC-ST Act and criminal intimidation charges to the FIR alongside a separate POCSO Act case.
- Police assured the complainant they would effect an arrest within 72 hours following pressure from Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad and CJP protests outside the Parliament Street Police Station.
- While Bhardwaj claims he acted in self-defense, the investigation continues into his digital material and social-media posts, and lawyer Amita Sachdeva filed a complaint alleging the student activist insulted Hindu deities.
