Congo-Kinshasa: M23 Rebels Committed to Peace in Eastern DRC
The Alliance Fleuve Congo/M23 rebel movement controlling territory in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) says a political solution is the best option to resolve the country's multi-faceted problems.
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, negotiations between the government and AFC/M23 have stalled. After an encouraging joint statement issued on 23 April in Doha, which referred to the prospect of a truce, no progress has been made since then. A third round of discussions was held in early May, still in the Qatari capital, with no tangible result. AFC/M23 representatives eventually left Doha and returned to Goma.
