Concert, uniforms & more: What to know about Speedway Classic between Reds, Braves
BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY, TENNESSEE, AUG 2 – The MLB Speedway Classic features motorsports-themed uniforms and a 220,000-square-foot fan zone as the Reds pursue a National League playoff spot, MLB said.
- On Saturday, Aug. 2, the Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves will play at Bristol Motor Speedway, marking MLB’s first racetrack game and first AL/NL contest in Tennessee, with first pitch at 7:15 p.m.
- Since early June, Major League Baseball and Bristol Motor Speedway have demolished and rebuilt the NASCAR track into a ballpark for the Speedway Classic.
- According to the league, uniforms feature numbers designed in the spirit of racecar numbers with checkered flag patterns on hats and helmets, and helmets are a first in MLB history.
- Adding to the event, fans can check out the MLB Speedway Classic Fan Zone with interactive games, food and musical acts, and enjoy a pregame concert by Pitbull alongside Tim McGraw and Jake Owen.
- With playoff races heating up, the Reds are within two games of the final NL wild card spot, while the Braves sit 13 games under.500 and risk missing the playoffs since 2017.
