People urged to avoid Laval Hospital ER during widespread IT outage
Computer systems are down, forcing staff to use paper records and diverting ambulances while officials say restoration time is unclear.
CISSS Laval urged patients on Monday to avoid the Hospital emergency room unless requiring immediate medical attention, as a major IT outage forced staff to rely on paper records.
A severed fibre-optic cable during construction work caused the widespread telecom and computer system failure, disrupting services across Laval, the Laurentians, and the Lanaudi regions.
Karine Miousse, union head of the SIIAL-CSQ, confirmed the breakdown includes a telephone outage affecting five facilities, alongside a major internet disruption across the region.
Ambulances heading to the Hospital are being diverted to other facilities, while officials instructed patients to call 911 for emergencies and provided temporary contact numbers for other services.
The CISSS teams are working to maintain essential services and minimize public impact, though officials have not yet confirmed when telecommunications and computer systems will be fully restored.
