In Finland, self-censorship was part of the so-called Finlandization that characterized the country's politics during the Cold War. Self-censorship was evident in Finnish textbooks, which reproduced the Soviet Union's positive self-image. In officially neutral Sweden, however, both the Soviet Union and the United States were criticized in textbooks. This is according to historian Janne Holmén, who works at Uppsala University.
