Civilian deaths in conflict surged by 40 per cent last year, according to new data released by the UN human rights office (OHCHR) with already marginalised groups facing disproportionate levels of discrimination.

The UN in its new report on Afghanistan says that it has recorded 2,299 safety and security-related incidents from 1 February to 30 April 2025, marking a 3 percent increase as compared with the same period in 2024.
