As of June 18, 2026, the Canada Border Services Agency has opened 484 immigration investigations linked to extortion, with 81 individuals already removed from Canada.
The agency implemented enhanced tracking of immigration enforcement cases with potential links to extortion in Alberta and the Greater Toronto Area, supporting a task force launched in September 2025.
On Thursday, the Surrey Police Service reported the CBSA holds two men in custody connected to a June 11 extortion-related shooting in the City Centre; two others face firearm charges.
Most removals occurred in the Pacific region, which includes the Yukon, accounting for 46 individuals, while 17 were removed from the Greater Toronto Area and 18 from the Prairie region.
Canada Border Services Agency President Erin Gorman stated the agency is "working side by side with other law enforcement partners to counter extortion" and disrupt criminal networks to prevent community harm.
