- A U.S. Customs and Border Protection supervisor, Andres Wilkinson, was arrested and charged in Texas for allegedly harboring Elva Edith Garcia-Vallejo, who overstayed her visa in Laredo.
- Garcia-Vallejo entered the U.S. on a nonimmigrant visa in August 2023 and later overstayed, and when interviewed earlier this month she admitted living with Wilkinson since August 2024.
- According to the complaint, they traveled together through Border Patrol checkpoints near the Texas border, prosecutors allege Wilkinson provided the woman financial support including housing, credit cards, and vehicle access, and the CBP Office of Professional Responsibility investigated their relationship for months.
- He made an initial appearance and remains in custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for Friday, officials said, and if convicted, Wilkinson faces up to 10 years and a $250,000 fine.
- Wilkinson, who joined CBP in 2001 and was promoted in 2021, held customs and immigration enforcement duties, and the complaint alleges he maintained a relationship despite knowing the woman’s unlawful status; her husband’s green card petition was canceled in April 2025.
