CBI Arrests Two for Deceiving NEET Aspirants by Posing as Middlemen
- The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Sandeep Shah on June 9 in Mumbai and Salim Patel on June 10 in Sangli for allegedly defrauding NEET UG 2025 aspirants by promising score manipulation.
- The arrests came shortly after authorities filed a cheating case when it was uncovered that the accused had falsely represented having links with NTA officials to manipulate exam results in exchange for payments totaling nearly ₹90 lakh.
- Investigations showed that Shah and Patel met with concerned parents at Mumbai’s ITC Grand Central hotel, promising that inflated scores would be provided six hours prior to the official announcements, and uncovered their connections to admission consultancy services based in Navi Mumbai and Pune.
- Forensic analysis of the suspects' mobile phones revealed incriminating conversations containing information about candidates, their roll numbers, examination documents, and evidence of illegal financial dealings via hawala, while the CBI confirmed that no officials from the government or NTA were implicated.
- The special CBI court extended their police custody to June 16 to facilitate further investigation, while authorities continue probing a wider network and identifying more victims.
