- The ATF National Response Team said investigators found four improvised explosive devices linked to the suspect and in Sanford's truck, while officials confirmed gasoline or another accelerant was used to ignite the fire.
- Police said Thomas Jacob Sanford was shot and killed after engaging officers in the church parking lot, while the ATF National Response Team and 100 FBI agents were deployed to assist the investigation.
- Several Catholic bishops voiced sorrow and offered support to Latter-day Saints as the attack follows recent violence including the Aug. 27 Minneapolis assault, Archbishop Edward J. Weisenburger and Bishop Earl Boyea said.
