Car registered to man accused of planning mass shooting was at Hindu temple he targeted, police say
Investigators say the suspect planned to attack a Hindu temple and left behind weapons, ammunition and a manifesto describing white supremacist views.
- On Thursday, authorities announced the arrest of 19-year-old Alexandros Paporakis, who allegedly plotted a mass shooting at a Hindu temple in Aurora, an attack thwarted by a coworker's tip.
- According to court records, Paporakis spent two years planning the attack and identified as a 'sociopathic white supremacist Neo-Nazi,' detailing his hatred for 'Indian people' in an eight-page manifesto.
- Last Sunday, Paporakis drove to the temple armed with an AR-style rifle and 300 rounds of ammunition, aborting the attempt when his weapon jammed and texting a coworker, 'retry when I fix this.'
- Police arrested Paporakis in Palatine, where they recovered tactical gear and swastikas, and on Wednesday, Associate Judge Andreana Turano ordered the teenager detained without bond.
- U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, who was at the temple during the planned attempt, stated he was 'horrified,' while FBI Chicago Field Office acting special agent in charge Lucas Rothaar praised the 'single, courageous individual' who prevented the attack.
