- The Transportation Safety Board of Canada said Monday it is launching an investigation and sending teams to St. Maarten after WestJet flight WS2276 had a hard landing at Princess Juliana International Airport on September 8, 2025.
- Video and eyewitness livestreams showed sparks and billowing smoke as the WestJet Boeing 737-800's right engine and wing scraped the runway, damaging the right-hand main landing gear.
- All passengers and crew of flight WS2276 were evacuated safely at Princess Juliana International Airport, with foam deployed and three individuals taken for medical assessment.
- Following the landing, flights in and out of PJIAE were halted, causing regional disruption with inbound flights diverted to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and outbound cancellations and delays.
- Investigators will review flight data, pilot inputs and maintenance records as part of a formal inquiry with local authorities, WestJet and Boeing, while the damaged aircraft remains on site under investigation at Princess Juliana International Airport’s short runway and approach.
