Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's Ambitious Extraction Mode, DMZ, Gets Major Deep Dive
Infinity Ward says the mode will feature a 70-level progression track, persistent base upgrades and permanent gear loss to raise the stakes.
Infinity Ward detailed the DMZ mode for Modern Warfare, an 'action extraction shooter' releasing later this month as a paid component rather than free-to-play.
Jack Hara, co-studio head at Infinity Ward, stated the team focused on increasing stakes following player feedback. The mode competes within the growing extraction shooter genre alongside titles like ARC Raiders and Marathon.
Players manage progression and equipment from the Forward Operation Base, which evolves across Hajin with over a dozen Stations including a Printer for crafting gear and a Firing Range for testing loadouts.
The mode features a dedicated DMZ Progression track spanning 1-70 levels with high-stakes mechanics requiring players to pay for Operator revivals and risk losing extracted gear permanently.
Infinity Ward promised extensive post-launch support including dynamic weather and map changes, though long-term success depends on player adoption within the competitive extraction shooter landscape.
