The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services says it will take steps necessary to comply with a newly passed law requiring prisons to off er independent testing to inmates accused of drug and alcohol violations before taking disciplinary measures against them.

The department has 90 days from the end of the legislative session to comply with LB519, DCS spokesperson Dayne Urbanovsky said.
