Cabinet Approves ₹1,264 Crore Rail Line Expansion Project in Karnataka, Andhra
The rail project will add 46 km of track and boost freight capacity by 16.22 million tonnes a year, officials said.
- On Friday, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs , chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved a ₹1,264-crore rail expansion project adding third and fourth lines to the Ballari-Guntakal section connecting Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
- Planned under the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the multi-tracking project seeks to streamline rail operations and improve freight and passenger movement across the region through integrated planning.
- Infrastructure plans include a 762-metre mega bridge over the Vedavathi River and 52 minor bridges, with officials claiming the project will lower CO2 emissions by 6.67 crore kg and reduce oil imports by 1.32 crore litres.
- Separately, the Cabinet approved the Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojana Rasayan, or BHAVYA-Rasayan Scheme, to establish three chemical parks with a ₹3,030 crore outlay for common infrastructure and utilities.
- Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw noted the scheme runs for 5 years through 2030-31, with the Centre providing grants of up to ₹1,000 crore per park subject to a minimum ₹500 crore state contribution.
