Cabinet Approves GOBARdhan Biogas Scheme, Guwahati-Tezpur Highway Worth Rs 32,701 Crore Combined
The 135.871 km toll project includes 15 major bridges, 19 flyovers and 46 underpasses to cut travel time and ease congestion, officials said.
- On Thursday, August 6, 2026, the Union Cabinet approved the development of the 135.871 km Guwahati-Tezpur Corridor of NH-15 in Assam. This four-lane, access-controlled project costs Rs 8,970.20 crore.
- Separately, the Cabinet cleared the National Circular Bioenergy Scheme, known as GOBARdhan, with an outlay of Rs 23,731 crore. Combined Thursday approvals reached Rs 32,701 crore.
- The corridor includes construction of 15 major bridges, 19 flyovers, and a 4.9 km Emergency Landing Facility in the Tezpur Bypass. Developers will build 210 km of service roads to maintain cross-movement of traffic.
- Officials stated the project will increase average travel speed by 100 per cent and halve travel time. The corridor connects eight PM Gati-Shakti Economic Nodes, three Tourist Notes, and seven Logistic Nodes.
- Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw explained the scheme aims to establish compressed biogas as a major pillar of India's energy mix. "Aatmanirbharta is no longer an option, it is a necessity," the government said.

The project includes construction of 05 major bypasses of length 58.7 Km., thereby easing congestion on stretches passing through densely populated areas such as Baihata Chariali, Sipajhar, Kharupetia, Dekiajuli, and Tezpur.
