Woman in ad Who Said a Democrat Endangers Kids Pleaded Guilty to Endangering Kids
The super PAC ad drew criticism after reporting showed one featured woman had pleaded guilty to child endangerment and drunken driving.
- On Saturday, The Washington Post reported that Shellie Flockhart, a Dallas Center city council member featured in a Congressional Leadership Fund ad, pleaded guilty to child endangerment and drunken driving in 2017.
- The super PAC spent at least $1 million on the commercial, which features Flockhart accusing Democratic candidate Sarah Trone Garriott of being "dangerous" to children due to her voting record on transgender school issues.
- According to Iowa District Court records, police found Flockhart intoxicated with two children, ages 8 and 11, in her car in 2017. A roadside breath test recorded 0.254 blood alcohol content, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08.
- Trone Garriott slammed the ad on X, writing, "Paid actors, corrupt politicians, and now this." Flockhart posted a message Saturday calling the 2017 incident "inexcusable" and a "grave mistake."
- The Des Moines-area race between Trone Garriott and incumbent Republican Zach Nunn shifted to favor Democrats earlier this month, according to the Cook Political Report, as Republicans attempt to capitalize on transgender policy debates.
