BT and Verizon announce new joint venture deal
- On Monday, BT Group and Verizon Communications announced a 50:50 joint venture combining their international enterprise operations, aiming to serve multinational clients and bringing together $4 billion in combined annual revenue.
- BT Chief Executive Allison Kirkby has been steadily refocusing the 180-year-old British telecoms group on its home market, marking a milestone as it sheds international assets.
- To facilitate the partnership, Verizon agreed to pay BT Group an equalization payment of $625m, while both companies hold equal voting rights in the venture serving more than 3,000 customers in over 180 countries.
- The venture will be incorporated in Jersey, with Martijn Blanken joining BT Group from September 1 as chief executive designate to prepare for the anticipated 2027 launch.
- Verizon CEO Dan Schulman called the venture "the clear answer" for international customers, as both firms pursue significant cost-cutting including BT Group's goal for £3.7 billion in savings and up to 55,000 job losses.
