Belarus is struggling with the largest cattle plague in history. Alexander Lukashenko has stated that calves from regions where they are dying in large numbers should be sold to "healthy" farms. In the first four months of this year alone, 52,000 cattle died. Independent media suggest that a very dangerous animal disease — brucellosis — may be responsible for the plague.
