Nnamdi Kanu Names Wike, Umahi, Sanwo-Olu as Witnesses

Nnamdi Kanu plans to call 23 witnesses including top officials while requesting 90 days to complete his defence and will testify to deny allegations and explain his actions.

  • Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOB, entered his defence hours after protests led by Omoyele Sowore, with a signed notice suggesting he may have dismissed his legal team.
  • In a fresh motion filed on Thursday, Kanu challenged the court's jurisdiction after medical experts reported he was fit to stand trial, and he filed a motion on October 21. Justice James Omotosho presides over the case.
  • He plans to call 23 witnesses, split into ordinary and compellable groups including Abubakar Malami, SAN, Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, Nyesom Nwike, and retired generals summoned under Section 232 of the Evidence Act, 2011.
  • A magistrate ordered the remand of Aloy Ejimakor, special counsel, and 12 others to Kuje Correctional Centre, while police charged the 13 defendants under sections 152, 114 and 113 of the Penal Code Law.
  • Kanu told the court he will testify on his own behalf, file sworn statements of voluntary witnesses to the prosecution, and urged that court time not be wasted so justice is manifestly seen to be done.
