Bracewell to Stay with Black Caps for First Test

BULAWAYO, ZIMBABWE, JUL 25 – Michael Bracewell replaces injured Glenn Phillips for the first Test against Zimbabwe, bringing experience with 24 wickets and 259 runs in eight Tests, coach Rob Walter said.

  • Michael Bracewell has been added to New Zealand’s Test squad and will participate in the opening match of their series against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo on July 30, stepping in due to Glenn Phillips’ unavailability because of injury.
  • Phillips was ruled out of the Test squad after sustaining a right groin injury in the Major League Cricket final on July 13, leaving a vacancy in the team.
  • Bracewell, already in Zimbabwe for the T20I tri-series, was available for the Test, allowing New Zealand to maintain the team's balance.
  • Head coach Rob Walter called the inclusion straightforward, saying, "Michael is the closest like-for-like replacement" whose experience adds value.
  • A decision on whether Bracewell will continue for the second Test on August 7 will be made after the first match concludes.
