Sinner Stays Clear of Trouble Against Borges to Reach Round Three
Jannik Sinner won 7-6(4), 7-6(2), 6-4 and set an Italian Grand Slam match-win record with his 95th victory.
On Wednesday, defending Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner defeated Nuno Borges at Centre Court while members of Europe's Ryder Cup team watched his relatively risk-free second-round victory.
Sinner secured his 95th Grand Slam match win, moving ahead of Nicola Pietrangeli as Italy's all-time record holder for Grand Slam victories.
Portugal's Borges provided stubborn resistance and was a point away from taking the second set, but Sinner won 7-6, 7-6, 6-4 by remaining rock-solid during critical tiebreaks.
After the match, the 24-year-old Sinner joked he lacks the "golf swing" celebration that Carlos Alcaraz used at last year's U.S. Open, admitting his tennis level is improving.
Sinner faces unseeded American Jenson Brooksby next week, though a heatwave forecast for London could challenge him after the Championships' mild start.
