BMW debuts 6th-generation EV powertrain in the all-electric iX3

BMW's new iX3 features a sixth-generation powertrain with 108 kWh battery, offering up to 805 km range and 400 kW fast charging to boost efficiency and competitiveness.

  • On Friday, BMW unveiled the BMW iX3 50 xDrive featuring its sixth-generation eDrive, which BMW says can yield up to 400 miles and introduces the Neue Klasse electrical architecture ahead of the IAA Mobility Show in Munich.
  • BMW calls Neue Klasse its biggest future-focused project, aiming to recover market share in China and evoking the 1500 model as a symbol of reinvention.
  • Powered by an 800-volt system architecture and a 108 kWh high-voltage battery, the iX3 charges up to 400 kW, adding over 350 kilometers in 10 minutes and reducing energy losses by 40 percent, BMW says.
  • Later this year production will commence at the BMW Group Plant Debrecen in Hungary, with European showrooms welcoming the iX3 by March 2026 priced from 58,755 and U.S. market arrivals set for summer 2026.
  • As a long-term pivot, BMW will roll Neue Klasse tech into 40 new or updated models by 2027 and expand production to the San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico starting that year.
