Disney Is Bringing Back Iconic 1980s ITV Dating Show with Huge TV Star Set to Host
Producers want a female host who can modernize the revived dating format while keeping its nostalgic appeal, sources said.
Maura Higgins, a former Love Island contestant, is in advanced discussions to host a Blind Date reboot on Disney, with producers convinced she is the "perfect choice" for the revival.
Originally presented by Cilla Black, the dating programme drew up to 17 million viewers before ITV cancelled it in 2003; a subsequent Channel 5 reboot with Paul O'Grady aired from 2017 to 2019.
A television source told The Sun that "discussions are at an advanced stage," noting Higgins has "unquestionable glamour combined with cheeky charm which has echoes of Blind Date's most famous host."
Disney is reportedly gearing up to start production later this year, though the streaming service has not yet issued formal confirmation of the project or Higgins' involvement.
Since rising to prominence on Love Island in 2019, Higgins has hosted the Irish version of Glow Up and appeared on The Traitors US, establishing herself as a prominent television personality beyond reality television.
