ADC: Court Affirms David Mark, Aregbesola as National Chairman, Secretary
Justice Liman held that the ADC’s new leadership followed party rules and law, and awarded costs against Abejide after dismissing his suit.
- On Thursday, the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a suit challenging the African Democratic Congress leadership, affirming the legitimacy of executives led by former Senate President David Mark.
- Leke Abejide, a member of the House of Representatives, filed the suit in February 2026, arguing the leadership handover from former National Chairman Ralph Nwosu to Mark and Rauf Aregbesola violated the party's constitution.
- Ruling on the matter, Justice Musa Liman held that the court lacked jurisdiction over internal party affairs and that Abejide failed to exhaust internal dispute resolution mechanisms before approaching the court.
- Consequently, the judge ordered Abejide to pay N2 million in costs to each of the defendants, and imposed a N10 million fine against Abejide's lawyer, Ibrahim Idris, citing the Electoral Act, 2026.
- This ruling concludes the latest chapter in ongoing legal challenges surrounding the ADC's leadership, which became significant after the party was adopted by a coalition of opposition politicians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
