Bengaluru engineering student drags classmate into men's washroom, rapes her; later asks, ‘Do you need a pill?’

  • On October 10, Jeevan Gowda, 21, a fifth-semester student at a private engineering college in Basavanagudi, allegedly raped a seventh-semester female student inside the campus men's washroom.

  • According to the FIR, during the encounter he pulled the survivor into the men's washroom, locked the door, took her phone when a friend called, and the incident occurred between 1.30 and 1.50 p.m., after which he called asking if she `wanted pills`.
  • On October 15, the survivor's parents filed a complaint at Hanumanthanagar police station, the police registered the case under Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the accused was arrested soon after and sent to judicial custody.
  • The survivor initially delayed reporting because she feared shame, but friends supported her, after which she informed parents and approached police; the accused maintains the encounter was consensual.
