Bella Hadid Tears Up, Details Chronic Illness From Lyme Disease: ‘Overwhelming Amount of Emotion’
Hadid said the flare-up left her short of breath and overwhelmed as she described chronic symptoms and thanked supporters for their messages.
On Thursday, model Bella Hadid, 29, shared an update on Instagram describing a recent flare-up of her chronic Lyme disease, which she has battled for 15 years.
Diagnosed at age 16 in 2012, Hadid has managed the tick-borne bacterial infection; according to the NHS, chronic Lyme disease often causes persistent tiredness and loss of energy.
Detailing her symptoms, Hadid noted she slept 11 hours yet still required naps. She explained that showering without fainting felt like a "really big accomplishment."
Addressing her 59.3 million Instagram followers, Hadid expressed gratitude for their support. "I wasn't expecting it, but I'm truly grateful," she said.
Her mother, Yolanda Hadid, and sister Gigi have also battled the illness, highlighting the family's shared history with Lyme disease. Hadid stated she is "able to cope with to a capacity now.
