Banks advise customers to complete essential transactions ahead of 3-day strike
Bank customers are urged to finish essential transactions early as public sector branches face disruptions and unions press for a five-day work week and pension changes.
Bank unions deferred their proposed three-day nationwide strike scheduled for September 28–30 after reaching an understanding with the Indian Banks' Association on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
The United Forum of Bank Unions organized the action to press for a five-day work week, alongside demands for pension improvements and uniform dearness allowance formulas for bank employees.
Both parties agreed to form a high-level committee immediately to explore alternatives for declaring remaining Saturdays as holidays, with solutions acceptable to all stakeholders, the UFBU said.
Banking services will proceed as scheduled, with cash deposits, withdrawals, and digital transactions remaining available across public sector banks and regional rural banks throughout the week.
The committee will address residual issues from a March 8, 2024 meeting while discussions on the Performance Linked Incentive scheme for officers remain pending, signaling ongoing negotiations ahead.
