- State Bank of India announced it will waive Automated Teller Machine transaction charges from September 28 to September 30 during a proposed three-day nationwide bank strike. Customers can withdraw cash at any bank ATM without fees during this period.
- The United Forum of Bank Unions , representing 90 per cent of the banking workforce, organized the strike primarily seeking 5-day banking among other demands. The walkout coincides with the banking sector's half-yearly closing.
- Ahead of the strike, the government directed Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks to remain open on Sunday, September 27. Employee unions objected, demanding either withdrawal of the order or compensatory leave with double pay.
- SBI reiterated that all bank branches will remain open during the strike while customers can access essential services through YONO, Internet Banking, Mobile Banking, WhatsApp Banking, and the 24/7 Contact Centre. This maintains operational continuity.
- Customers can perform routine banking tasks such as remittances and payments through Unified Payments Interface , Immediate Payment Service , National Electronic Funds Transfer , and Real Time Gross Settlement . These digital channels reduce the need to visit bank branches.
