Baidu confirms robotaxi project with Switzerland's PostBus

Baidu and Swiss PostBus will test fully driverless electric robotaxis in three eastern cantons with plans for public service by early 2027, after 5 million rides in China.

  • On Wednesday, Baidu confirmed its Apollo Go unit will start test drives in Switzerland this December in partnership with PostBus, Switzerland's national public transport operator.
  • Chosen for regulatory stability, Switzerland's well-regulated transport system and safety reputation make it ideal as Baidu and Chinese tech companies expand autonomous testing in Europe.
  • Baidu will deploy its Apollo RT6 EV, designed for autonomy with removable steering wheels and no traditional driver’s seat, enabling a fully driverless service.
  • The two companies plan to launch AmiGo by the first quarter of 2027, with commuters booking private or shared rides via app bookings as the service complements regional public transport.
  • Rival firms are accelerating European tests as Apollo Go has completed more than five million rides and runs more than 1,000 driverless vehicles across 16 cities worldwide, with Pony.ai and Waymo expanding too.
